This is basically an event suggestion, which I would work to realise if it were approved: what better way could there be for Jeremy and like-minded people, to express socialist international policy and humanitarian solidarity, than by visiting the “Jungle” camp in Calais?,
bearing humanitarian aid such as tarps for shelter and warm wear and food. It brings into focus the inspirational “contrarian” view of what Labour could stand for; it demonstrates in a practical what European international solidarity could mean; it shows how humanitarians care for other less fortunate people; it directly challenges the vile racist & phobic attitudes towards “migrants” and current immigration policy; it harkens back to the pre-war “kinder-transports” and the “underground train” liberating black people from the US South. Etc etc It would be a great day out to express a possible positive future for this country in its great tradition of welcoming downtrodden and homeless people.
