Jeremy Corbyn has been the MP for Islington North since 1983. He was elected as Leader of the Labour Party in September last year with 59.5% of the vote, and on the back of a wave of hope for a new kind of politics.
Jeremy’s honesty and integrity has touched millions of people let down by out-of-touch Westminster politics. Under his leadership, the membership of the Labour Party has tripled, making it the biggest socialist party in Europe.
Jeremy’s politics have resonated with millions of people. Labour is now committed to creating a society that works for the millions, not the millionaires – with a million new homes and a million new jobs, an education system that is free for all, and public services which where money flows into patient care and people’s needs, not into the coffers of private companies.
That vision is translating into electoral success. Since September last year, Labour has won key mayoral contests in Bristol and London, and increased our majority in every by-election.
And Labour has pushed back the Tory agenda in a number of key areas – from Personal Independence Payments, to tax credits to Saudi Arabian jail contracts. We are winning the argument that austerity is a political choice, not an economic necessity.
In this leadership election, Jeremy is asking for the votes of Labour member and supporters so that Labour can make its vision a reality. We will rebuild and transform Britain so that no-one and no community is left behind.
